ChemChats are monthly open roundtable discussions on Zoom facilitated by NEACT. ChemChats are aimed at high school and college chemistry teachers but are open to all STEM teachers. Come to share ideas, come to ask questions, or just come for the collegiality.
Our topic for this afternoon is "EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT LAB SAFETY BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK", and our special guest is Dr. Jim Kaufman.
Dr. James Kaufman is Founder/President Emeritus of The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) – an international, non-profit center for safety in science, industry, and education. He received his BA in chemistry from Tufts and his PhD in organic chemistry from WPI. Working for Dow, he authored "Laboratory Safety Guidelines". Over six million copies (in 23 languages) are in circulation. Dr Kaufman has trained more than 100,000 scientists and science educators in over 135 types of labs in 32 countries. Most recently, he prepared one, two and three-day on-demand internet lab safety courses.
ChemChats are hosted by Sue Klemmer. I am ZOOMING from the coast of Maine, so times are always stated as east coast time. We run 4:00-5:00 pm EST.
The next ChemChat will be Thursday June 15th. The topic will be determined at the May ChemChat.
