Effectively Using the Latest TI Technology in Math, Science and Stem

High school and middle school science teachers are invited to attend the Texas Instruments STEM Mini-PD Event on Saturday, September 15 from 8:30 am-1 pm at Mass Academy in Worcester, MA.  The purpose of the workshop is to offer a high quality, low cost professional development opportunity using the latest TI technology.  There are 11 sessions to choose from.  Advance registration is required.

Pay when you arrive. Purchase orders, personal checks and cash are accepted. Make checks payable to “Mass Academy” Purchase Orders should be made out to Mass Academy (not TI) at the address below.

SESSION CANCELLATION
A session will be closed once maximum enrollment is reached  Sessions with very low enrollment may be cancelled and you will be notified no later than September 10th if a Session you requested has been cancelled
 
WHAT TO BRING TO THE EVENT
If you have a TI-Nspire handheld or a TI-84 Plus graphing calculator, you may bring it along to the Workshop. .If you do, please insure that it is updated with the latest Operating System. Visit https://education.ti.com/en/software/search  We will have TI Workshop Loan equipment (Ti-84 Plus CE Graphing Calculators and TI-Nspire CX Handhelds) for you to borrow during the Workshop so there is no need to bring your own unless you choose to do so. You will have Internet access.

Session 1:  Introduction to Coding with Innovator & Rover …                                      
This session is designed for educators interested in introducing coding to their students using TI-84 Plus CE or TI Nspire CX handhelds with the Innovator and Rover.  The basics of coding principles will be introduced.  No coding experience is necessary! 
Session 2:  Beyond the Basics on the TI 84Plus CE …                                                        
Are you already comfortable using the TI 84Plus CE in your classroom, but want to learn more about its’ capabilities?   This session is for you!         Basic 84 skills are necessary. 
Session 3:  Algebra 1 Success with TI Technology …                                                         
Algebra is the minimum mathematics graduation requirement for students, and teachers who use TI Technology consistently in their Algebra 1 classroom have students who have great success.  Come learn strategies for helping your students succeed in Algebra 1.  Topics will include linear functions, linear systems, and graphing functions and relations. 
Session 4:  Intermediate Coding with Innovator & Rover ..                                          
Have you already done some coding on TI technology and want to take it further?  This session is for you!  Basic TI coding experience is necessary.  
Session 5:  Science Success with TI Technology part I…      
TI  handhelds in your science class can enhance student learning in many ways. It can help collect data, analyze it and build models to predict. This can happen with and without sensors in you classroom;  with your old activities enhanced and new ones; with data you collect or find in data sets.  Participants will have some choice of activities depending upon their interests.  This session will focus on activities in earth and life sciences.

Session 6:  Innovator & Rover in the Math Classroom …                                                   
This session will continue the coding from session 1 to include ideas specific to the mathematics classroom.  Math teachers are often tasked with teaching coding, but need ideas for integrating it into their classes while teaching their curriculum.  This session will get you started! 
Session 7:  Geometry Success with TI Technology                                                                                   
Many teachers are not aware of the geometry capabilities of TI technology!  Come learn how TI handhelds can enhance your teaching, and increase student success in Geometry! 
Session 8:  More Algebra 1 Success with TI Technology                                                               
Teachers who use TI Technology consistently in their Algebra 1 classroom have great success.  Come learn strategies for helping your students succeed in Algebra 1.  Topics will include  quadratic, exponential, radical, and rational functions, and probability. 
Session 9:  Statistics Success with TI Technology …                                                                     
In this session, numerous statistics topics will be explored, including:  interpreting univatriate and bivariate data, conditional probability and making inferences and decisions.   
Session 10:  Science Success with TI Technology part II…           
TI  handhelds in your science class can enhance student learning in many ways. It can help collect data, analyze it and build models to predict. This can happen with and without sensors in you classroom;  with your old activities enhanced and new ones; with data you collect or find in data sets.  Participants will have some choice of activities depending upon their interests.  This session will focus on the physical sciences, specifically Chemistry and Physics. 
Session 11:  Engaging Students with the Engineering Design Process using TI Technology   
Introduce your math or science students to the EDP (Engineering Design Process) by working in a team to design an automatic dispenser.  We will use the new TI-Innovator™ Hub with TI LaunchPad™ Board along with TI-Nspire™ CX  or 84CE technology to power your device.  Bring your ideas of how to automatically dispense items such as candy, toilet paper, business cards, and more! Building materials (think recyclables) will be provided.  Come join the fun!
